    Fire doors: frequently asked questions

Got a question about our fire door products or fire door services? You may find your answer here. If not, ask our team.
    1

    What are fire doors?

    Fire doors are fire-rated doors.

Fire-rated doors are specially constructed doors, engineered to slow the spread of fire and smoke for a set period. They help protect escape routes, limit damage and save lives.

We can also describe fire exit doors as fire doors.

Fire exit doors are the final door along an escape route. With the help of easy-to-use push pad and push bar mechanisms, they help people evacuate a building quickly in an emergency.

    2

How much does a fire door cost?

Costs for a single fire door in a standard-sized opening start from £1500. This includes the complete fire door set (including fire-rated frames and hardware) and professional installation.

    3

Where do you need fire doors?

Fire doors are a legal requirement in many commercial, industrial and residential buildings — particularly along escape routes, between fire compartments and in high-risk areas. Our fire safety team can advise you on the best fire safety doors for your premises and risk profile.

    4

Can I install fire safety systems myself?

We don’t recommend it. To meet fire safety standards, you should get a certified fire door installer to fit your fire safety system. That way, you can be sure that your fire doors, fire exits and fire curtains will work properly in the event of a fire.

    5

Do your fire door sets come with frames and hardware?

Yes. We supply our fire doors as full door sets, including frames, hinges, closers, locks, signage and any other specified hardware.

    6

Do your fire safety doors meet UK fire safety regulations?

Yes, FDS fire doors meet UK fire safety legislation and all relevant building standards. With a team of fire safety technicians and professional fire door installers, you can count on expert guidance and a compliant fire safety system.

    7

Does your company have public liability insurance?

Yes. We have public liability insurance and are happy to provide documentation on request. This insurance covers your company in the unlikely event that something goes wrong during fire door installation. And it’s something every professional fire door company should have.

    8

Do you provide support after installation?

Absolutely. We offer aftercare and maintenance packages, plus a 24/7 emergency repair service, to keep your fire protection systems safe and operational.

    9

Do your fire doors come with a warranty?

Yes, they do. Any fire safety system from FDS comes with a one-year warranty.
